Introduction to coding, robotics, and digital design through hands-on project creation
The Tech Innovators program is designed for children ages 9-12 who are ready to explore the exciting world of technology, coding, and robotics. At this age, children have developed the cognitive maturity to understand abstract concepts, follow complex instructions, and engage in sustained problem-solving. Our program harnesses this readiness to introduce computational thinking, programming fundamentals, and digital design.
In today's digital world, technological literacy is essential. However, we go beyond simply teaching children to use technology—we teach them to create with technology. Children learn to think like programmers, engineers, and designers, developing skills that will serve them throughout their lives regardless of their future career paths.
Children begin with visual programming languages that make coding concepts accessible and engaging. They learn fundamental programming concepts including variables, loops, conditionals, functions, and event handling. As they progress, children transition to text-based programming languages, developing the skills needed to create more sophisticated projects.
Programming projects are designed to be meaningful and engaging. Children might create games, interactive stories, animations, or utility applications. Each project teaches specific programming concepts while allowing children to express their creativity. This approach is part of our comprehensive STEM programs, which integrate technology with science, engineering, and mathematics.
Robotics brings programming to life in tangible ways. Children build robots using various construction systems, learning about mechanical design, sensor integration, and motor control. They program their robots to perform tasks, navigate environments, and respond to stimuli. This hands-on approach makes abstract programming concepts concrete and memorable.
Robotics projects often involve collaborative learning, as children work in teams to design, build, and program robots. These collaborative experiences teach valuable lessons about teamwork, communication, and project management. Children learn that complex projects require planning, division of labor, and coordination of efforts.
Technology is not just about code—it's also about design and communication. Our program includes digital media creation activities where children learn to create graphics, animations, videos, and interactive presentations. These skills enable children to communicate their ideas effectively and express their creativity through digital media.
Digital media projects often integrate with our creative expression programs, as children use technology to create art, tell stories, and express themselves. Children learn that technology and creativity are not separate domains but can be combined to create powerful and meaningful works.
Breaking complex problems into smaller, manageable parts.
Identifying patterns and using them to solve problems efficiently.
The Tech Innovators program builds upon the scientific thinking skills developed in our Young Scientists program. Children apply their understanding of scientific method to debugging code, testing programs, and iterating on designs. The program also connects with our Math Masters program, as programming requires mathematical thinking including logic, algorithms, and data structures.
Our research-based curriculum ensures that technology instruction follows best practices for teaching computational thinking. The program incorporates our personalized learning approach, allowing children to pursue projects that match their interests while ensuring coverage of essential programming concepts.
